Crocus sieberi subsp. nivalis

Mathew has given subspecies rank to this race growing at higher levels in the Taygetos Mountains. He distinguishes between this and the closely proximate subsp sublimis on the basis of a smooth throat and slight differences in the tunic.  It is the perhaps the largest flowered, consistently darkest and easiest to grow of all the tribe.
