Iris douglasiana

This native Californian species is a vigorous plant spreading by rhizomes into substantial clumps of narrow strap-like leaves. Pale blue flowers arise on 30cm stems in spring and these are veined more darkly and have basal orange staining. Hardy species tolerant of most soil types and suitable for woodland or understory planting in partial shade.
