Dense spikes of dark, violet-blue flowers, the pedicels of the upper sterile flowers are paler and smaller than the lower fertile ones. A distinctive species as the flowers are uniformly a deep colour and not bicoloured because the lobes of the same hue rather than the usual white or brown. Our stock comes from a seed collection on the foothills of Mt. Chelmos in the northern Peloponnese.
