Salvia sclarea

Clary Sage is widespread in Greece and Turkey but this collection by the late Jim Archibald from the foothills of Nur Dag in southern Turkey must rate as one of the best. It makes attractive mounds of broadly lanceolate, crinkly, grey-green leaves from which spring enormous columns of lilac-blue, white-lipped flowers surrounded by pink, white and green bracts. Highly aromatic and one plant I wouldn’t be without.
